2018 CYB Spring Season Foal - Bronco Player Registration

.

ATTENTION PARENTS NEW AGE RULE!

Due to the new age rule enforced by the pony organization many players will be automatically moved up to the next division prematurely. As a league we are aware of your safety concerns.

If you wish for your player to Play Up or Play Down, he/she will be required to tryout for both divisions. We will be taking appropriate steps to draft players in the division best suited for them based on the information provided by you during this registration process and their skills during the tryout process.

If it is in the best interest and safety for your player to play down in a division they will not be eligible for all stars in the 2018 spring season. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult process.

Cypress Residency vs Non-Residency

City of Cypress regulations require all leagues to maintain a player residency requirement of 55% to have access to fields and practice sites. While CYB has always met the residency requirement in previous years, our percentage has come close to the minimum requirement the last few seasons and we want to make sure our families are aware of the situation. Cypress City Council passed a measure that would allow us to meet the 55% requirement by including Residents and Non-Residents that attend a Cypress public school. This welcome change may mitigate any chance of not meeting the 55% requirements for upcoming seasons. Our registration questions ask our non-Cypress residents to indicate if they attend a Cypress public school.

In the unlikely event that our “residency” percentage drops below 55%, we will be forced to implement a “wait list” for non-residents based upon registration date. We don’t foresee this being an issue and will notify families ASAP if a wait list goes into effect.

There will be a charge of $10 for all non-residents outside of the 90630 zip code and that do not attend a Cypress public school, including Lexington.

Tryout Schedule

Tryouts will be held Saturday, January 6th & Sunday, January 7th for the Shetland thru Bronco Divisions at Oak Knoll Park, weather permitting. Anyone who registers on January 6th will have tryouts on the 7th. You will be contacted via email with your tryout date and time. Anyone wishing to Play Up or Down will need to tryout for both divisions. Foal Division Players do not need to try out.

Spring Training

Because of the positive feedback from our families, we will be continuing our “Spring Training” program this season. Spring Training is designed to allow our teams to incorporate the experience of playing in a game into their preseason preparation. Our Coaches will be able to evaluate players in a truly non-competitive setting to help prepare for the season. This is also the perfect time to learn how to keep score.

You may contact Candy Garza at scorekeeper@cypressyouthbaseball.org for further information. Score keeping classes will also be posted on the CYB website.

NEW BAT STANDARDS 2018

In conjunction with USA Baseball and its other participating national member organizations, PONY Baseball has adopted the new USA Baseball bat standard (USABat). Effective January 1, 2018, with the exception of -3 (BBCOR certified), all other 2 1/4" and 2 5/8" barrel bats with a minus factor of (-5, -7, -9, etc.), must be USABat certified with the USABat licensing stamp on the bat in order to be used for league and tournament play. All 2 1/4" and 2 5/8" minus factor bats -5, -7, -9, etc. used in 2017 will be illegal to use in 2018.

Tee ball bats are not required to undergo lab testing to receive approval under the USABat program. However, to be approved for play, tee ball bats must carry the USA Baseball mark accompanied by the following text: "Only For Use With Approved Tee Ball Bats." If you already have a tee ball bat you would like to continue using, all you have to do is purchase a USA Bat sticker directly from USA Baseball and place it on your bat. You can purchase a USA Bat sticker, click here. Tee ball bats manufactured after the new rule was adopted will already include the USABat Baseball mark.

The new USABat certified bats bearing the USABat licensing mark are expected to be offered in retail stores September 1, 2017.
